Lovely hotel and facilities, very good service and staff. Food in one restaurant distinctly average and over priced

This 5-star hotel fell short of expectations, especially given the cost. While the setting and room amenities were initially impressive, the subpar service and numerous inconveniences created a disappointing experience. Positives: - Beautiful setting with well-appointed rooms featuring Le Labo toiletries and comfortable amenities like underfloor heating. - Good range of child-friendly amenities including a playroom, outdoor sports space, and a relaxed sports bar. - Excellent Italian restaurant (La Cucina) with a great menu and good portions. Negatives: - Inadequate Service: The staff seemed inexperienced and ill-equipped to handle guest requests. For example, the reception staff were confused about restaurant opening times over the weekend, and the concierge was unsure about pet policies. One waitress struggled to explain what "neeps" were, and another seemed perplexed when we asked for a container for ice cream to take back to our room. This lack of training and knowledge was consistently evident throughout our stay. - Misleading Pet Policy: Despite being advertised as pet-friendly, the hotel severely restricts where dogs are allowed, essentially excluding them from all dining areas (apart from the Kittocks Bar). At one restaurant, we were made to feel foolish for even inquiring about dining with our spaniel, while another offered to isolate us in the lounge area. - Limited Children's Options: While the "kids eat free" offer is appealing, the children's menu is uninspired and repetitive. Our 5-year-old son tried almost everything, the Fish & Chips option was the most substantial. - Poor Value for Money: The high prices are not justified by the quality of the food or service. Our meal at The Squire (£180 for two adults, our son was 'free') was particularly disappointing. Despite the "kids eat free" offer, we still paid £5 for our son's apple juice which I think is pushing it. We requested a simple swap of peppers for tomatoes in our son's starter (vegetables and hummus) but this was not accommodated, the dish just arrived as is with no further comment (forgotten about perhaps). Our son's main course was also forgotten, while my steak was underseasoned and my wifes gnocchi was overcooked on the grill causing it to be dry and chewy. The sauces e.g. my peppercorn were lovely and we got the sense the ingredients are good, the prep is good and it's just poor execution come service time. - Room Cleaning Failure: Despite requesting service on our second day, it never arrived. - Not a Family Friendly Pool: The pool is not suitable for younger children due to its uniform depth (too deep for our 5-year-old) and lack of adequate seating. Despite booking a slot, there were not enough loungers. The jacuzzi is also off-limits to under-16s. Overall, this hotel needs significant improvement to justify its 5-star rating and price point. The lack of attention to detail, inconsistent service, and misleading information created an underwhelming and frustrating stay

My wife and I were treated to an overnight stay at the Fairmont as a Christmas gift so we took the opportunity to go early January as it would be quieter. Never been before and it was bigger and more opulent than I thought it would be. The staff were very friendly and attentive, the room was first class and walks and views amazing. I'm not a golfer so can't give an opinion on the golf course but our stay was during a freezing period of weather so I doubt much golf would have been possible even if I was into golf. Not the kind of place we would frequent often but for a special celebration I'd happily go back again 😊

Wow! I’ve been back in the area 10 years and still had not stayed here. I’m so glad I chose it to celebrate my mum and my own birthdays. The staff were immaculate. The service was top notch. The spa area is really great and the pool area is nicely laid out and the noise cancelling atmosphere in the atrium is genius. Well Done. I will be back.

The hotel is beautiful, room was gorgeous, facilities were great. Brilliant added addition of nespresso in the room. I would definitely stay in the hotel again. Now… the food…. The food I had did not match the price paid or my expectations for the hotel. Coffee was terrible at breakfast, I ordered ‘sourdough’ with peas and tomatoes. It was beyond poor, the bread was not sourdough and the rest was tasteless and not freshly made. We also ate at the Italian which was absolutely average. Please work on the food and bring it up to the standard of the hotel.

The hotel staff were all very friendly so that's a plus. But there were kids running around and screaming, yappy little dogs constantly barking, our room's air con had a loud, high pitched whine and the pool was far too small for the amount of people being let in, especially when one half of it was being taken up by two teenagers throwing a ball to each other from either end, often missing the catch and having it go under people's deck chairs for them to awkwardly pass back. Food was nice, though overpriced, even for a five star hotel. Two pizzas, two drinks and a side was £88. Can't complain about the breakfast though. The spa, other than the swimming pool, was nice, though quite limited (one small pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna). My wife got a manicure which she said was a great experience. Before dinner we sat downstairs for a drink as it was a bit quieter and the seats were comfier so I went upstairs and ordered at the bar and told them that we were downstairs. Instead of having our drinks brought to us, I was told to wait for them to be made (cocktails so took a little while) so I could then take them downstairs myself. Now fair enough we sat downstairs instead of at the bar upstairs but if I'm paying nearly £400 a night, I'd at least expect someone to bring drinks to us rather than me carrying them like I was at the pub. The drinks were very tasty though! Overall had a very nice time but it didn't feel particularly luxurious. With all the children screaming, running around and filling up the pool and the dogs barking, it felt a bit like I was at Butlins.

We had the most wonderful stay at the Fairmont St Andrews. Almost everything was a 10/10. Breakfast. The staff. The rooms. The atmosphere. Lobby. Swimming pool. Gym. The bar. Its location. The grounds. There are many restaurants there. The google reviews were very low, so we couldn’t risk it and went to town instead for our meals. The other thing was that the ground floor restrooms weren’t cleaned overnight all the way until afternoon. I know it was a very very busy period with more than usual children about. But still. The period we stayed was 27 to 30 December 2024.

We've been visiting for 15years, the Fairmont still maintains it's high standards! Very comfortable rooms with great bathrooms! Lots of public areas to sit and watch the world pass by. The breakfasts are fantastic, wide variety of hot and cold buffet food with an omelette station. The hotel offers bookable free shuttles into St Andrews so you can visit the town. Think carefully if you want to eat at the St Andrews bar and grill, which is a short walk, or free shuttle, at the golf clubhouse, the prices are very steep. The staff throughout are always friendly and helpful. The Zephyr sports bar is excellent with free pool, a golf Simulator and live sports. Will visit again! Update Christmas 2024. Very relaxing stay. Great breakfast as ever! Christmas decorations have stepped up a level since last time!

This hotel offers top-notch extravagance. Our stay was wonderful, and the service was excellent. We had a suite that was lovingly decorated with a Christmas tree. Additionally, there is a free shuttle service to the city. Highly recommended!

I booked this trip as a wee getaway before Christmas for my family and it was incredible. Even before checking in I had brilliant experiences with the customer service team who got our rooms together and an early check in. The rooms were spotless and so was the hotel. One of the children had a fall outside the hotel and the staff genuinely couldn’t have been more helpful and caring if they tried. From the front desk to the valet team to the spa team and the restaurant staff and housekeeping, everyone was remarkable and went above and beyond. 100% recommend staying and I’ve already been asked by the kids if we can stay again next year.

Hotel was fantastic, the service from day 1 until day 3 was perfect. We had dinner in the La Cucina restaurant for dinner one night and the food was brilliant and couldn't fault the service. They were very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was included in the room price every day and was buffet style. The food was great too. You have access to the spa which is clean and the pool is a great size. We both had a great time and will be very happy to come back for another visit. Fully recommended.

Early checkin request was ready on arrival, which Isla always helpful (usually have to wait around 30/-50 mins).. staff are the key… helpful, friendly, but more important.. natural and not robotic! Rooms to a good standard although, storm Bert unveiled that the wooden windows are probably past their effective date. Leaky and not wind proof (woke to a pool of water on sill of one window, resolved with one of the soft and plump bath towels)

A beautiful hotel with lovely facilities. Amazing views and very nice, large room. However, the service was slightly disappointing. The afternoon tea venue had lots of kids running around and it was quite slow service. Also we ordered a taxi for our group through the front desk but they ordered a taxi that was too small and we had to book a second one last minute - making half of our group late for dinner.

The best spa experience I've been to so far. From start to finish, you are pampered and looked after. Free fresh towels in the changing rooms and smaller ones in the gym. The gym has an excellent selection of free weights and machines. There is also a bench and a smiths machine and a great selection of cardio equipment, a filtered water machine and also a bowl of fresh fruit to keep you energized The spa is fantastic, which has a great sized pool, hot tub, steam room, and sauna, you will also find a water fountain in here as well as towels and pool side beds. On one side, you have something called a snail shower, which is a wooden bucket filled with freezing water, which you use after coming out of either the sauna or steam room. There is also a shower that does the same thing around the corner. If you feel brave, give it a go. There are also showers before the pool area. The changing rooms are fantastic and have digital lock lockers, which are very simple to use. There are also showers in here. There is an accessible changing room/toilet next to the other changing rooms. Inside the male changing rooms, which have recently been revamped, there are GHD hair dryers, 3 great showers, loads of lockers, and a machine to dry off your swimming shorts, which is very handy There are also mirrors over the sinks On the sinks, there is hand wash and hand moisturiser. I'm guessing the same or similar is in the female changing rooms. Overall, this is a fantastic place to go, so much so I joined as a member last year and love every day I'm there.
